Love in a Vegas aquarium

We have discussed at length how aquariums are symbols for our dreams. For some, they also represent love. Yes, love. Many people take pride in their aquariums, through either a custom-designed tank or a unique selection of marine animals. Owners often recreate a particular body of water, such as a lake or river, complete with the right fish and plants. Such people want a little slice of the ecosystem to call their own. It would be an understatement to say that owners invest in their aquariums; they pour their hearts and souls into them. If that isn’t love, what is?

An Austrian couple is taking that love up a notch. Stephan and Andrea are madly in love and traveled to the Las Vegas Hotel Aquarium in the Silverton Casino on Thursday to marry “behind the glass.” They wore scuba gear and swam with sharks and stingrays. It is fitting in a way; after all, being in love is the same as having sharks and stingrays swim in your heart! They exchanged vows while wearing specially made and weighted gown and tuxedo. Two of Andrea’s bridesmaids were Silverton’s world-famous mermaids! Not actual mermaids, of course, but performers dressed as mermaids, who perform synchronized ballet moves. It was a ceremony straight from a fantasy or sci-fi book. While their friends and family were not in the tank with them, they were able to participate in the ceremony and hear the couple say their vows through a loudspeaker.

The 117,000-gallon reef Las Vegas Hotel Aquarium is a popular tourist destination, named the “Best Free Attraction” in Las Vegas. Having over 4,000 tropical fish, the aquarium is also one of the best educational experiences in Vegas. What really draws in the crowds are the synchronized mermaid shows!
